Welcome... do you have an appointment? Me neither.

As a registered U.S. Nurse and Nurse Practitioner I have worked in a variety of settings over the last 10 years including: cardiology, pulomonary, medical ICU, and the cardiac catheterization lab. But little did I realize that when I moved to Berlin, Germany in July 2007 I would not only cross the atlantic but also be able to time travel!

I arrived in Germany and upon my first visit to the pediatrician with my son I was faced with a public health hazard that created a professional crisis for me namely....nurse practitioners don't exist here...yet. Unfortunately, I began to realize in Germany I was being re-introduced to a health care setting for nurses from a bygone era where for example nurses are not able to do many of the tasks that make the job so interesting and rewarding in the U.S. and among other things they are still (gasp!) wearing whites!

So from the moment I was yelled at by a German nurse at the pediatricians office for not speaking perfect German (so much for the mission statement I am used to of "Patients and Families first") I made a decision to take my expertise down the road less travelled (not the autobahn) and combine them with my love for writing while I am here.

I am currently learning German and working on building a writing portfolio. Please browse at your leisure, add comments when the urge strikes you, and always take your vitamins!
